Duality and non-duality in Andean Mystique

February 1st of 2025

Although in the transmission of Andean Initiation, which works with the Andean Seed – a legendary source of perception of beauty in all beings and situations - the existence of complementary opposites is taught, day and night, masculine and feminine, etc. In advanced Initiation it is recognized that these opposites are not so prominant, but are part of a Unified Whole or Wiracocha. Similar to the luminous perception of non-duality in Ramana Maharshi's Advaita Vedanta.

There are two powerful seeds of consciousness education, which are Yanantin and Masintin: these perceptions refer to the complementarity of opposites.

Yanantin is the union of the other (like the Sun - Tayta Inti and the Moon - Mama Killa).

Masintin is the union of the similar (like the drop and the ocean, or two rivers that meet and unite to form a new one).

Both perceptions are part of the understanding of the Inca Seed and teach us that the apparent duality that we have been taught is an illusion and that, in reality, EVERYTHING IS ONE.

This understanding is fundamental, especially during these final times, because it brings us clarity about the relationships of opposites or apparently opposites in race, gender diversity and the social classes that have been created. In other words, it is very necessary to understand with mercy and wisdom a fair and egalitarian organization of society.

In the Andean communities and in the communities of the Andean Mystique Ayllu, we try to live with this understanding.

Let us understand the two perceptions:

- Yanantin, the unity of opposites.

One understanding: Yanantin refers to the deep perception of the COMPLEMENTARITY of opposites or different. In the Andean way, different, opposites are never adversaries, but forces that need and enrich each other.

Examples:

-Day and night;

-Tayta Inti and Mama Killa;

-Masculine and feminine;

-Chumpis or bands above and below the diaphragm;

-Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Yanantin requires quiet reflection, because it opens us to a deep conscious perception, where different or opposites are two sides of the same coin. There is no conflict, but rather a resonant harmony necessary for balance.

We see this flowing now in the breath: I inhale and fullness arrives; I exhale and the being becomes more spacious. This is brilliant when you go deeper and do not let the mind analyze the essence of the Breath... there is a balance between giving and receiving, between expansion and contraction, the basis of Life on Pachamama and all the movement of the Cosmos and Chaos.

In practical life, Yanantin gives us – if you practice awakening and opening – the balance between our internal polarities (reason and emotion; intuition and memory; thinking focused on the past and thinking focused on the future) and also an inestimable value in this current moment of humanity: valuing the different because we need it to help us expand conscious perception, enriching us, it is a gift.

Masintin, the union of opposites

Masintin operates in the perception of the union of similar or equal aspects or elements. Unlike Yanantin, which unites opposites, Masintin unites forces that reinforce each other through similar vibrations or aspects.

For example:

-Two rivers that join to form a larger one, such as the Negro River and the Solimões River that form the Amazon River;

-Two people who are disciples join a third one and form a study group;

-An association that brings together companions under a Common Compassionate Intent, such as the Pachamama NGO.

Universal metaphors

The Andean Cosmovision with this non-duality integrates its perception of the awakening of reality, where everything is interconnected in Pachamama or Inter-Being. Opposites and similarities are not separate and are part of the movement of Kawsay Pacha, that is, part of the Totality of life.

In understanding this essential lesson, opposites show us different faces of a single dimension or perception, which work in complementarity, therefore, duality is an illusion.

As we delve deeper into the serene contemplation of Yanantin and Masintin, we move closer, moment by moment, to a balance that resonates with the Infinite and strengthens the perception of the Community of Intention, because we join with companions who look towards the same horizon and support each other.

And something very essential at this time: we joyfully accept diversity; we value differences in perception because they enlarge the vessel that receives the spark that distills wisdom within us.

Feel Yanantin and Masintin in your heart, not as abstract concepts, but as revitalizing forces that are part of the Whole. As you reflect, unite these two perceptions and feel the inner guidance toward a life of resonant harmony, both on your small path and on the broad group path.

Masintin opens us to the conscious perception of cooperation, collaboration and solidarity among equals (and we are all equal souls) to create something greater and more powerful: Nación Pachamama.

In daily life, Masintin promotes group consciousness in us, that is, working as a team that does not compete or rival, which has overcome the ego of criticism and awakened to the assembly of the heart. This allows us to support each other in crossing the turbulent river of life and together reach deeper, broader and more pragmatic visions, because together we are stronger and we can win.

In Personal Relationships, these two perceptions are vital: Yanantin transforms difference into complementarity and we move from struggling to be right, to finding a synthesis that overcomes, while Masintin is perceived in the common goals and values that are the basis of the original dream of a relationship.

In group service or community work, which we learned first-hand in Q'eros, in the communities of the High Andes, Yanantin and Masintin are living principles that guide social organization and activity. For example: men and women work together (Yanantin) on complementary tasks, while groups of uaikis with similar skills (Masintin) come together for specific dreams and projects.

In our spiritual life, which, for an Andean walker, includes all the present moments, including those in which the brain sleeps.

There are Andean ceremonies and rituals that seek to balance opposing energies (Yanantin) and strengthen similar energies (Masintin), combining opposing elements (flowers and seeds, or leaves and sweets) and unrelated elements. And similar ones (several coca leaves in different rings).

In meditation and healing, the Paqo (a healer) works with Yanantin to balance the patient's internal energies (for example, if a center is too humid, by placing fire energy from his pocpo or energy body) or by activating the ñawis or chakras with solar energy. With Masintin, it reinforces the luminous and balanced energies and intentions shared in the healing ceremony.

Ayni, Natural Movement of Pachamama and Kawsay Pacha

January 24th of 2025

Ayni is a Quechua term that is taught as “reciprocity”, but using the gaze of the heart, we observe that, in reality, it is a natural movement of Pachamama and the Kawsay Pacha, that is, of the Universe and the Creative Source.

Ayni is not a meaning or a belief, much less a concept, like love, poetry and relationships. Ayni is a deep well of wisdom where we learn and which deepens more and more throughout life, and this is the beauty of Wisdom: understanding beautifies the gaze and cleanses it of rigid meanings, and the Heart-Consciousness broadens and deepens in learning.

Is this exchange limited to the energetic level or is it all within the movement of Ayni?

Everything is within the InterBeing, everything is interrelated; your body is in Ayni with the Holy Earth, everything in you is in Ayni with the Cosmos and what is essential is the conscious quality of Ayni.

In the Breath, so essential to our Spiritual Tradition, inhalation is in Ayni with exhalation.

Ayni is not an idea, but a natural movement of the One Life.

This natural movement is a full flow that is born from the Infinite Source and leads us to the freedom to choose and give birth to actions that awaken, through Ayni, the reciprocity from the Universe Pachamama, which is Alive and Pure Consciousness.

Everything that comes to you is your responsibility and Ayni is the understanding and the tool to transform the heart and destiny.

This is not theoretical, it is an action from the awakened Heart that has reflected and deepened in the basic movement of the One Life, and then we are, together with Pachamama, children fulfilling a momentous destiny of restoring the way of Good Living in our human circles of influence.

It is the understanding of Ayni that is the thermometer that shows us at what level of initiation and wisdom we vibrate and act.

Whether you understand it or not, Ayni is flowing now, in every breath and Pachamama feeds you in return according to what you have given.

The intrinsic quality of Ayni is that you get more than you give. That is why you can collect Sami (luminous and light energy) or Hucha (heavy energy). This is not a moral rule, but conscious wisdom.

Ayni is not about doing this or that, the only request is the education of attention to be aware of Ayni.

At some point in your development, you will clearly perceive that if you project Hucha, Hucha increases and comes back.

This is not punishment, it is just feedback. So, if you are awake, you are attentive to what you project, talk, think, dream and act.

A question that always comes up is: Is Ayni like Karma?

Yes, it is similar in a sense, since it flows all the time, but unlike Karma, Ayni is not saved for a possible next life.

The Hucha and the Sami flow now, in the present moment, in this life.

In Andean Mysticism, without assuming it as a belief, but as a feeling, learning from moment to moment, we are aware of the Ayni, then the situations that happen to you and around you are not random, chance moments. This understanding allows us to direct and transform the quality of internal vision about life in this moment.

We discover the harmonic or dissonant resonance of our thoughts, actions, dreams, etc. We are creating our reality by resonant harmony, this is Ayni.

It does not work as a belief, but as a fluid and true reality.

In other words, the world exists by itself, the energy flows now, whether you know it or not. Reality simply is, and you are immersed in it. Your understanding of Ayni, your consciousness, can influence this reality or approach it in different ways.

As we said, Ayni is really able to modify this reality, according to the feedback from the universe.

If you have Ayni, you can influence the Kawsay Pacha and you can respond with more ample possibilities and lower the impact of the Hucha.

In Andean Mysticism we do not believe in magic solutions, it happens that, from the awakened consciousness and that has understood Ayni, we have tools to open the field of possibilities and, in this continuous movement of the Now, reality softens.

We now recall the beautiful prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, who used to say: Lord, help me to accept the things I cannot change. Let me change the things I can change, but, above all, help me to know the difference. Can not knowing the difference be hell? Yes, not knowing your responsibility and the consequences of your actions can create hell for you.

Ayni is wisdom of the natural movements of Life, Pachamama. Your capacity of understanding comes from the Inca Seed.

The Inca Seed is special. It is a drop of Totality. It is what IS.

The Inca Seed is given to you at initiation and is pure and very potent Sami. Through exercising Ayni, you learn to express what is original in you, and the Inca Seed allows you to discover the bridge between consciousness and your original self. And you are a pure, innocent, joyful child and a seed as well.

Placing Ayni at the center of our development is essential. The Inca seed helps you to understand, to distill wisdom, and to liberate the energetic and psychological Hucha from the Pocpo, and then it is possible for a great encounter between consciousness and the true self to occur.

Andean Masters

The ancient Amautas, with their power to remain still in contemplative observation of the stars, found answers in the Cosmic Dance of the Kuyllor (stars).

This is how they discovered the law of cycles, periodicity and the rotation around a center, from which Ayllu's worldview was born.

When observing the order in space, they found the Southern Cross, which had two unequal arms, and realized that the smaller side is one side of the square and the larger arm is two diagonals; thus, they found the square and its diagonal: the sacred proportion, the Andean proportion.

This entire Andean geometric system was born from the observation of the proportion between the arms: major and minor of the Southern Cross constellation, which is the same relationship that exists between the side of a square and its diagonal, which is equal to the square root of two ( 1.414213) when we take the square side as the unit.

This vision took place during the Time of Chavín de Huanta (Ancash, Peru).

The Chakana, reflection of the Infinite

January 19th of 2025

The Chakana is a deep and very ancient mandala, we find it in all initiatory traditions rooted in the One Life.

In the Andean tradition, the Andean Solar School is a symbol, mandala and living mystery in which the Infinite is reflected in the finite.

We are based in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Chakana marks the South Pole.

The ancient Amautas, with their power to remain still in contemplative observation of the stars, found answers in the Cosmic Dance of the Kuyllor (stars).

We walk among Pachamama's threads of eternity, which flow without ceasing, and in this dance we heal, bringing expansion and elevation of consciousness.

Chakana comes from Quechua/Aymara and indicates the relationship between different domains and realities; like an Andean Tree of Life.

The term Chakana comes from the verb chakay, which means “to pass” or “to cross the threshold or entrance”, and from the suffix “na” which, added to the verb, transforms it into a noun. Chakana thus means “crossing” or “traffic crossing between two points”. It is a bridge like connection between two domains or dimensions.

The meaning of the Tradition behind CHAKANA refers to the name that Andean people give to the constellation of six stars of the Southern Cross (we must not forget the two guiding stars, Alpha and Beta of the Centaur).

We will use words in Quechua, but also Aymara, and a little pre-Inca Puquina.

Rumi Chaka is, among the Puquina people, the stone that holds irrigation water in the furrows so that it does not generate erosion on the “farm”.

For some of these ancient peoples, it is a ladder or a series of transportable parallel beams, used to facilitate ascent or descent when building. In other words, the idea behind Chaka is a complement so that it “holds” or serves as a “support” for something to function as an functional tool, that is, it respects the Andean idea of a complement or complementary pair.

In Tihuanaco we find the “stairs” formed at the four vertices of his Cross, which is called Chakana.

In the Andean Solar School, everything has a message in several layers of understanding, and Chakana is at the center of the mystery.

The initiatory whisper of the Southern Cross Constellation presented us with the Chakana, or initiatory mandala, which brings us the Wisdom of the Greater Mysteries, about the Resurrection in the Light or the acquisition of the Sacred Solar Stone.

Chakana presents us, through the meditative contemplation on it, the mysteries that its matrix hides, in its geometry, in its spiritual mandala and in its mysteries between angle/shape and circle/void.

The entire universe distills the elixir of wisdom as a dynamic enhancer of the energy and essence of Pachamama.

The great order, according to the Wisdom of Chakana, appears as ILLA TECSE KONTIQUI WIRACOCHA, with its modular components being Wiracocha or Empty Central Axis, the perpendicular central sphere and its rotational, translative and ascending movements, which forms a bioenergetic sphere or mandala applicable to the creative universe, a galactic system, a solar system, a particular planet or a living being.

The Chakana contains all the minor and major mysteries and the poetics of Andean initiatory philosophy.

It is the bridge or saihua between the energy of the four elements and the eight points around the spherical void.

It can be read as a bridge, ladder, seed, weave, fabric, ascension, three states of consciousness, perception, attention and power animals, and a structure around the infinite void complement of fullness.

As well as the principles of the art of spiritual healing, which we will discuss in another text.

In our Andean Mystic Ayllu it is represented in the four suyos (colla, cundí, anti, chincha), that is, the different orientations or regions of potential.

And also the four energetic bodies that make up the pocpo:

Chila Kausa Kurku, the physical body;

Samay Kausa Kurku, vital body;

Khuya Kausa Kurkukuna, emotional or astral body;

Yuya Kausa Kurkukuna, mental body.

All bodies are driven by a Spark of Fire from the Creator Apu Kontiki Tecse Wiracocha within us.

It is because of this, as well as other spiritual reasons, that we reverently carry the Chakana on our chest, called Sonqo Ñawi, to distill wisdom in the art of Good Living.
